Have you ever heard of something having crannies without having nooks?  Just what is the difference between nooks and crannies?

A nook is a small corner, alcove or recess in a large room, or it can be a secluded spot.
A Cranny means a crevice or a small opening, such as in a rock wall.
Together however they mean an isolated fact that is considered separately from the whole.

The etymology behind the phrase however is debated between the discussion behind English muffins or an article in Time Magazine in which the author makes a pun on crooks and nannies and it become nooks and crannies.

This is my research on the matter.
