Spoilers

- Is it just me or does Morgana team up with just about anyone who hates the Pendragons?

- Odin, mitts off Mithian!

- Morgana’s hair is both wilder and lighter in colour. Or is it just the lighting making it that shade of brown?

- “I seek what’s rightfully mine. I seek the throne of Camelot.” You know, Morgana, you claim you have rights to that throne but at the same time you dismiss the idea of Uther being your father… I just don’t get you…

- After so many years, you’d think she’d have learned that killing Arthur is no easy task.

- Is it just me or does Odin look like he doesn’t quite trust Morgana?

- God, it’s so painfully easy for just anyone to get into the city and the palace, isn’t it? It’s like they welcome danger…

- “Sir Leon, it gladdens my heart to see you.” As if I didn’t ship it already…

- Leon looked as if he would have stayed by her bedside if he could… :D <3

- Merlin acting all physician-in-training-y and telling Arthur he can’t see the patient! XD Like this so much!

- “Did you just give me an order?” “Yes, Sire!” “Feel good, does it?” “It’s… not unpleasant.” And Merlin gets his 5 seconds of ordering Arthur around! XD If you think about it, this scene shows some character development for Arthur, because once, a few years back, he’d have had Merlin in the stocks for that (or at the very least given him a good whack to the head) and done as he saw fit. Now he just turns around and sits back down, for once listening to Merlin.

- As if anyone had any doubt that the old servant lady is Morgana. But I think that this scene shows just how much more powerful Merlin is than her, because he can hold the transformation as long as he wants and without problems (I wonder if, after this timeskip, he can change back without a potion) while Morgana has trouble keeping it for long periods of time (and the change back looks very very painful and seems a bit out of her control?)

- I wonder how she feels, though, to be back in the castle that was once her home, after so long.

- Remember when Merlin was so antagonistic towards Mithian last season? Now he’s so careful with her.

- It must grate so badly on Morgana to see Gwen in the chair she herself used to occupy when Uther was still alive.

- You can’t help but feel sorry for Mithian in the Throne Room scene because, though you know it’s a trap, most of her story is true and it’s also accentuated by her inner conflict, that she has to hurt her friends to save her father. You can just tell how scared and alone she feels, even when she’s surrounded by friends that would do anything to keep her safe.

- When Arthur said “Mithian, I can understand how you must be feeling”, for a second I thought he’d refuse helping her… I don’t know why… Probably because of the way he said it, it just reminded me, for a split second, of Uther in Season one, when he refused to help Hunith because she was from Cendred’s Kingdom and he didn’t want to start a war over one village. Good thing Arthur is so fucking different from his father.

- Look at Leon, so casually calling her “Mithian”, no ‘princess’, no ‘lady’, no nothing.

- I just love it that the Initial People of the Round Table (sans Lancelot for obvious reasons) are Arthur’s privy council. It just shows whom he trusts the most.

- Gwen can see right through you bullshit, Arthur. (And I don’t think she’s the only one.)

- I’m sorry but Morgana’s old voice amuses me just as much as Merlin’s old voice.

- “Sorry, I did knock.” Knock or no knock, Merlin, you can’t just barge into a lady’s room like that…

- First, Gwen catches onto Arthur’s “Odin doesn’t matter now.” bullshit. Now, Merlin realises something’s not quite right with Mithian and her servant. Sometimes I think that these two just rule the kingdom and let Arthur live with the impression that he does. They are so underestimated by everyone that, if they chose to overthrow Arthur and openly take rule of the Kingdom, it would be a bigger shock (in-universe, at least) than Morgana’s and Agravaine’s betrayals and Merlin’s magic put together.

- You’d think at least Gaius would have learned to trust Merlin’s gut instinct by now…

- You go, Gwen! Call him out on his bullshit! (I still don’t like her hair this season, though.)

- “Whatever I feel about Odin has nothing to do with this.” Riiiiiight. As ifanyone believes you.

- Aaand she still doesn’t believe your bullshit. Good.

- I like Rodor. Even chained and at Odin’s mercy and he’s still all kingly.

- You can tell that Mithian takes her guts from her father (and that sounded kind of wrong, didn’t it?).

- Her misfortune is that Morgana knows the castle better than Mithian ever will.

- Morgana really likes her magic bracelets, doesn’t she?

- I know that they must only be a few feet away from Gwen’s room (which is why she was able to hear the commotion and come out so fast), but really, Gwen should learn not to walk by herself at night, queen or not. (Also, whyare there no guards at least on the corridors where the royals live??)

- Also, she notices that there is something not quite right with those two. I may not ship the royal couple but Gwen as queen? Hell yes!

- “Sire! Wait!” “What is it?” “This mission, Sire…” “It’s too dangerous so I shouldn’t go.” “Yeah. We’re thinking the same thing.” “No. I’m thinking that’s exactly what you always say. But here I am: two legs, two arms, my own teeth.” “I have a funny feeling that there’s something we’re missing. Something we don’t know?” “But you can’t say what exactly.” “No.” “No.” “Maybe we should delay the mission until we have all the facts at our disposal.” “Fine! Oh, go and tell Princess Mithian that we’ve decided to let her father die because you have a funny feeling.” (Pause) “I didn’t think so.”

=> You know, I get Arthur here. As much as Merlin’s “funny feelings” have proved right in the past, Arthur, as king, can’t just let the king of an allied country die just because his manservant thinks that something is wrong. Weknow just how important Merlin is to Arthur and to Camelot, but to others, he is still just a manservant.

=> Also, Arthur, the only reason you still have all your limbs and all your teeth is because Merlin is there to keep you in one piece all the time.

- Oh, Sir Leon, if you only knew who you’re helping get on the horse. Gwaine as well.

- I wonder how hard it is for Merlin to sometimes not just snap and whack everybody on the back of their heads and just yell “We’re in danger, you utter morons!” in their faces.

- Oh how sweet, he’s helping her off her horse. My new BROTP!!

- I wonder if Mithian gave Merlin that ‘been caught and escaped’ story to make him suspicious. Because it was clearly not part of the plan.

- Gaius, really, how many times has Merlin’s gut feeling been wrong? Stop dismissing it!

- I just noticed how Arthur and Merlin sit apart from the other knights. They have their own camp fire and stuff. It’s like the knights all went “Alright, those who aren’t on watch, leave the royal pair alone.” Or Leon told the knights to leave the to of them to their poetry. XDXD

- Also, so not complaining about how every adventure so far this season has its own camp fire scene with these two. XD

- Remember how last week Arthur was telling Uther that he trusts Gwen more than anyone? Apparently there are some things he doesn’t trust her with (and it’s the second episode in a row that proves that).

- “God knows I understand why you hate him.” I wonder if Arthur understands how much Merlin understands.

- “If you were me, if you were in my shoes… would you do any different?” “Probably…not.” Sometimes I get the feeling that Arthur asks him these “If it were you” questions to reassure himself, not to make Merlin see he’d do the same. And it’s like Merlin can’t help agreeing with him in these cases… Besotted as he is…

- See, another reason they can’t tell it’s Morgana in disguise (besides the fact that they don’t know to look for it, not expecting her to be able to hold such a spell for such a long time) is that, unlike with Merlin’s own old disguise, she has these moments where she’s clearly not feeling well… Which Merlin doesn’t seem to have.

- And she looks like a cornered rabbit when everybody agrees that she should let Gaius check her.

- And finally Gaius starts to suspect. Took you long enough.

- People keep calling Mithian a damsel in distress in this episode. But she does all she can in her situation. It’s not her fault most of Camelot’s citizens are a bit dim.

- See, this is why Arthur’s bane is himself. He never listens to anyone when he’s set his mind to something. Poor Leon tries to make him see sense and he’s all “No. I want my revenge. Fuck safety!”

- For all Mithian was saying “You’re my only hope, Arthur.” in the beginning (act or no), she quickly realised that the only one on whom she can really count on is Merlin, because he’s the only one to notice all is not quite right. Smart girl.

- And of course Morgana isn’t stupid enough not to suspect Mithian’s insistence.

- Do I even want to know what she wrote Morgana’s name with?

- I noticed people focusing on/bitching about two things regarding the choking scene:

1. That Merlin deserved it for having poisoned her way back when. (Which is beyond stupid because it was either that or letting Camelot waste away. And it was a really tough choice to make, choosing between one friend and the rest of the city (and all his other friends). And he gave her a poison that had an antidote. What if he’d given her something different? Or run her through with a sword or knife? Also, it was a long time ago, people need to let it go.)

2. Why did he let her choke him instead of just, idk, blasting her away with his magic. Umm… because it’s already been established that she mustn’t find out about his powers? Because he’s been keeping it a secret for so long, it would have been stupid to just reveal himself then and there? And possibly because he knew she wouldn’t kill him? She did stop before she did.

- I wonder if, for a moment there, through all the worry, Leon thought “Arthur’s going to suggest we postpone the mission again, isn’t he?” Because it wouldn’t be the first time Arthur would be ready to drop everything to get Merlin to safety.

- And for once, Arthur surprises me. He willingly leaves a wounded Merlin behind. This shows just how hell bent on revenge he is.

- At least he leaves Gwaine with him. Though I think Gwaine would have stayed even if Arthur hadn’t suggested it.

- Haven’t seen Gaius cast a spell in a while. He still looks weird with the glowing eyes.

- Notice how Gwaine is conveniently gone just long enough.

- I think one of these days Gaius will die of heart failure because of all the worry Merlin puts him through.

- “She’s been using some kind of ageing spell.” Like the one you use, you mean?

- Merlin! Gwaine was worried about you and you don’t even give him a hug !?

- Seriously, Arthur is way too naive and trusting. His own bane, indeed.

- You know, as much as I adore seeing Merlin and Arthur together, I really want an episode where Merlin is, idk, away with just Gwaine, Leon, Percival and Elyan. No Arthur, no Gwen, no Lamia and no enchantments cast on the knights. Just some bonding time.

- Finally caught on that it’s a trap. And you can tell by his face how betrayed he feels. Because he honestly doesn’t see why Mithian would.

- I was very surprised to see that it only took two men to restrain Percival.

- And finally he gets it! I wonder if, if only just for one moment, he thought something like “Fuck! Merlin was right.” when he realised Hilda was Morgana and all the pieces fell into place.

- “But understand this, Odin, you kill me, and you’ll have all of Camelot to answer to.” And also a pissed off warlock who would flatten you and level your entire kingdom if anything happens to Arthur.

- “Camelot is nothing without its king.” Well… Gwen would beg to differ.

- “Then you don’t know my knights.” Your knights nothing, it’s your manservant he should be wary of (though you don’t know that either).

- Everyone (me included, tbh) goes on and on about how Arthur will react at the reveal (if that ever happens). I’m just as curious about the four knights. I have a feeling Gwaine suspects something. But maybe that’s just me.

- And Merlin saved Arthur’s neck (quite literally, this time) again. I’m almost contemplating making a list of all the times this happened.

- Didn’t think he’d create an earthquake to do it, though. Hot and scary.

- For some reason, at first, I though Arthur was surprised that Merlin saved him, but thinking better about it, it’s obvious he’s surprised Merlin’s there when he was out cold the last time he saw him.

- And I love how Merlin’s taking charge here for a bit.

- Why the hell is Morgana just standing there, looking confused?

- I wonder if she’ll realise it was Merlin who blew her into the wall.

- Yay, Gwaine to the rescue!

- Mithian grabbing onto Merlin for protection (which, considering she’s unarmed, isn’t surprising; she’d probably have kicked ass with them had she had a sword) shows just how much she trusts him.

- Hmm… doesn’t that look like the place where they lured and surrounded Annis’ husband last season?

- Look at them how perfectly in synch they turn! <3

- For a few seconds, you think, two against so many, definitely magic reveal about to happen. Then Odin makes it a one on one with Arthur and you know that the show’s creators are just huge teases.

- But I like the contrast between Odin, who has a small army at his back, and Arthur, who only has Merlin (who could flatten them all if he wanted to).

- I’m not the only one who really likes watching Arthur sword-fighting, right?

- At least he listens to Merlin sometimes.

- “How many times have you talked about uniting this land.” At first I was like “WTF? You’re the one talking about it, Merlin, not Arthur.” but then I realised that we know next to nothing about what happened in the three years between Seasons 4 and 5 (other than they were full of peace and prosperity). For all we know, Arthur has started talking about uniting all of Albion. Maybe Merlin’s constant mentions have gotten him thinking about it.

- I know it’s probably because of the lighting, everything being a bit dark-ish and all… but Arthur’s eyes looking all black (instead of the usual bright, vivid blue) makes the scene even darker. Makes you realise just how close to the edge he is.

- And Arthur shows some kingly wisdom. And you can see how much he’s grown since he killed King Caerleon (Annis’ husband) last season. And it shows how good an influence Merlin is.

- And finally, an end to the feud!

- Just a bit of me nitpicking but… Merlin’s head wound is gone by the time Arthur fights Odin. The place where he was bloodied earlier now looks like it’s just dirty.

- “All thanks to you.” “Well everyone played their part.” Showing some modesty, Arthur?

- “Camelot is fortunate to have a king such as you.” “It’s I that’s fortunate. Camelot would be nothing were it not for the courage and loyalty of its friends.” So much modesty. Please do it more often.

- “You could’ve killed Odin. You had every reason. You did something far more important. You gave the people of his land hope for the future. I’m proud of you.” “Merlin should take some of the credit. Turns out he’s not always entirely stupid.” “Is that a compliment?” “Don’t tell him, whatever you do. I’ll never hear the end of it.”

=> At least he knows to give credit where credit is due. Though I’d like it even more if he had done to Merlin’s face. And I can bet anything that Gwendoes tell Merlin, because she thinks he should know.

- “Not while Morgana lives and breathes, it doesn’t.” They way Merlin says this is both hot and scary, because you can just hear a touch of darkness in his voice.
- “She is not yet your equal.” “And if that day should come?” “Let us hope it does not.” I don’t know if she’ll ever reach his level of power but she’ll definitely be strong enough to give him a run for his money. I have a feeling that, if we’re shown the Battle of Camlann, the only reason Merlin won’t be there to save Arthur from Mordred will be because he’ll be busy facing Morgana.
