The only plus side I can think of is that I'm not sure a state law like that on immigration would even be valid, given that it's supposed to be a federal issue.

And it is absurd because, really, what else is "probable cause" supposed to be in this situation other than "doesn't look white"? And how do people think that's even remotely acceptable? And even aside from the most obvious racism, it's still so creepy that now people pretty much have to carry around identification with them at all times. I keep seeing pictures of young protestors there, and I just feel so bad for them that their state pretty much turned into a creepy racist police state on them.

Deportation may be a federal issue, but I think they got away with it because the state can still give police to power to ask for identification in certain cases. I mean, they already can (may I see your license?), but this is going above and beyond the pale in extending that power. -_-
