much inner conflict over whether to: a. buzz my hair every week or so to maintain length of 1/2 inch or b. let it grow out a bit so i can do hilarious things with it
as in, i've been reading adam bede for a few days, and never gave it a second thought that george was male. was never informed that indeed, he's a she.
her real name was mary ann evans, i assume that she went by george eliot so that she could be respected and published etc, like the brontes. i'm not sure why, unlike the brontes, everybody still refers to her by her pseudonym.
i haven't read adam bede. is it good? daniel deronda is very very good, and middlemarch is fucking spectacular. i've heard that her other stuff doesn't really measure up.
i do love that she's a woman, because she is so obviously brilliant and extremely well educated. i think that she's the most intelligent novelist i've ever read.
adam is bede is good so far; i wouldn't call it brilliant but i'm enjoying it. i'm much more of an austen fan. i've never read middlemarch - maybe i should?
p.s. what class are you reading her for? p.p.s. i can't imagine you with a shaved head...
middlemarch has my highest recommendation if you have lots of time (haha) and discipline; it's long and dense. i think i would have had trouble getting through it in a reasonable amount of time if i hadn't had to read it for class, but it's my favorite book.
p.s. i'm reading it for ilja wachs' 19th century novel class. which is incredible. what about you? p.p.s. i couldn't imagine myself with one either, but it seems to have worked out ok. presumably i'll see you on campus someday and then you can see.
we miss you too. :( i wish you could come to our dance party on saturday.
this nice first year is living in your room. at least i assume that she's a first year cause i see her hanging out with first years, but on second thought it's weird that sarah cardwell would let a first year move into a single. ::shrugs::
