My understanding of the job market is that for every job on the market there are hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants. I can't imagine how hard it is to get a job these days. I have heard that those looking for work are putting out hundreds of resumes--why doesn't that look right?--that getting a job is a job in itself. I feel for your friend. And that's just it -- my friend says there's no hope for them whatsoever. Actually, it was more like they were screaming this.

From past experiences, I'm sure that my friend suffers from some sort of anxiety disorder, but most of the time my friend is in a state of complete denial about it... and on those occasions when they can't deny that they're handling stress extremely irrationally, they come up with a list of lame excuses as to why they can't seek treatment for it. I've tried to be understanding, but as my friend's behavior is negatively impacting the lives of those closest to them, my patience has reached its limits...
