The Darkness cracks me up here, personality-wise, though its origins are tragic. Given the difficulties you experienced in how your parents treated you growing up, this just seemed a monstrously unfair thing to have happened on top of the rest of it. I'm so sorry that happened.

Choosing to risk being molested again over a sibling having that horror introduced into his or her life was very brave. Many a brother or sister has put others first that way, hard as it is.

The truth that many writers do not want to face! We are a conglomeration of our experiences and perhaps more importantly, how we handle those experiences. That synthesis is the concoction that creates our stories, our characters and the statements we want to make with them. Brilliant, as always.
