I have a very good friend who's had a very similar life experience. Although I personally have experienced life differently, I can say that I think it's really hard for anyone to be open to meeting someone new and dating when you're still hung up on and want someone else. It's an impossible ask to find that instant connection with someone new, and yet that seems to be what I'm looking for when I go on a first date, if I want to move on from someone else.
