Typically, when I share information of this sort with anyone, the immediate response is "don't worry, it'll work out," or "it just takes a little more time and patience," or something equally as cheery, as supportive, as guilt reducing for the speaker as possible.
But people like that can never really know what THIS is. They think "encouragement" is what's needed. It's a nice thought, and certainly a way of viewing the situation, but what else can you do, looking from the outside, in?
