Title: Frankly Glorious Warnings: Innuendo, talking about sex Summary: France and England reminisce. Characters: France, England, Dutch Republic in absentia Year: Ambiguous modern
I LOVE THIS FIC. Like, seriously. And all the little historical references... probably why I like Hetalia in the first place, but rarely I find a good fic that has the shippiness AND the historical references. Because, when you think about it, everything makes more sense with the historical references.
I actually started reading/watching this fandom because of European history. Taking AP Euro and school and all... kinda getting desperate for studying for exams in it xD
Hilariously, I'm totally the opposite. I didn't know a thing about history until I started writing in this fandom... it's been a pretty fast learning curve xD
Good luck with your exams! Try not to get too distracted by the Hetalia ships, even when they jump RIGHT OFF THE PAGE at you.
Damn, I love your historical notes <3 Shows that you really care and know what you're talking about :3 England is such a bitter little pixie when he's drunk, isn't he?
I have not, but it sounds like something I want to read! Link?
The thing about Native America -tans is that there would have to be so many of them, since there were so many separate tribal identities... that's what's kept me from going there in the past in my own fics. What I REALLY want to read/write is a Spain/Inca or Spain/Aztec. But that opens up a lot of hard doors, since no one wants to read Spain as the bad guy...
Your France, my dear, is both insinuous and kind, and sometimes I wonder if he himself has a hard time deciding which one he actually is. Does he bear English ill-will, or does he just not know how else to act around him?
Both, I think, but more the second than the first by now. They've been mostly at peace with each other for about a century, but they still don't quite know how to interact without fighting. I think France also believes that England would freak out on him if he started acting truly kind-- and he's probably right.
...also. Thanks for coming to check out my journal, babe. It means a lot to me.
“I don’t fuck the French,” said England, grumpily. France raised his eyes. “I don’t fuck the French sober,” he amended.
This line....and every little mentioning of Arthur as a queen....made me giggle like a mad giggler. I have to admit that you solidified my head-canon of Arthur just straight up preferring men to women. No doubt he fucks both (Portugal, y/y?) but largely prefers men.
We've been talking a lot about the Battle of Hastings in my class (because my professor is English and shakes her fist at every mentioning), so this entire story made my night. How do you come up with this stuff?
Hmm... I was actually going for Arthur, in his internal dialogue, thinking of FRANCIS as a queen. Despite the fact that France is much more solidly bisexual xD.
Ok, England's sexuality. I waffle back and forth on this. On the one hand, I like writing him as gay: A) it's funny, and B) it opens up the door for the plot device where Character X wants Character Y-- or is obligated to have sex with them for political reasons-- but has a problem with their physical gender (we write what we know...) On the other hand, British Empire? Can you really see him being finicky about who he gets in bed
( ... )
I'm not sure how, but I completely missed the POV in this. I fail. Or I was tired. One of the two.
And I know what you mean about England. I always thought that he felt a little more tenderness towards Portugal than anyone else (except maybe America and Canada, for obvious reasons) which is why he might be alright with the vanilla sex. I really don't know anything about Windsor, so I probably shouldn't talk about their alliance.

...and seriously, how can you follow historical canon and NOT be shippy? xD
