 I wish past relationships hadn't fucked me up so badly that despite the fact that we share a bed, a house, he calls me his girlfriend and he tells me he loves me, I still feel insecure that he doesn't want to update his facebook relationship status.

Seriously, how old am I?

I didn't get a clear answer. I didn't want to push the issue, since he was on his way into work. I guess just the whole private life vs. public information sort of thing... he doesn't use the site nearly as much as I do.

Don't worry, I'd feel the same way. At least, I did when Jon and I were dating and he didn't want to put it up. He did eventually, but he did it on his own. So I didn't bug him about it. :)

From what I've gathered the only reason people don't want to do that is because it makes the break up that much more public and obnoxious if/when it happens. When it changes to "in a relationship" people just comment with a generic, congratulatory, response, but when it changes to "single" suddenly everyone is interested and wants to ask questions and be a part of the situation.

That said, I feel for you because I would be feeling the same way you are if my boyfriend went out of his way not to change it for any given reason. Maybe we're just equally ridiculous.

I'm sorry to hear your confidence in the two of you is so easily shaken. I wish something this small didn't bother you. But since it does, you'll need to talk with him and find a resolution that is satisfactory to you both; don't just insist that he change his status to suit your insecurity. Try to understand him while helping him understand yourself.

Yeah, I don't want him to just concede to me. I'm sitting on it for a bit to see how much it really bothers me. It seems like my anxiety was really high yesterday, it's not bothering me today. Hooray for my crazy mind. u_u;
