Snow!

Much snow outside the window. Practicially a blizzard.
Reminds me of January 1987 - at least I think it was 1987. The gritting lorry didn't go down our road, and it was about half a mile to the junction with the main Anstruther road. The snow was about eighteen inches deep on our road.

My mum made me go to school. She said she had to go in because she was a teacher, and if she was going in then it would look pretty suspicious if I didn't. We had to walk to the junction in order to get a taxi to go into town. I had all my schoolbooks piled in a huge holdall and dragged them behind me on the sledge, and I had to walk in my dad's footsteps so as not to get my wellies filled up with snow.

I don't remember ever being quite that cold at any other time in my life. And of course when we finally got to school, only about a third of the pupils were present, and no productive lessons happened at all. Plus most people were getting away with wearing trousers and moonboots, while I was shivering in the proper uniform.

My mum says I'll never let her forget that particular episode, and, d'you know? I don't think I ever will...
