I spent this weekend in Brantford. :) Ghosts of Brantford festival was going on at the Ford Plant in lieu of Murdered City Music Fest. I stayed at Jon Grime's house all weekend, despite him having to work all Saturday. His bed was very uncomfortable, but I didn't want to say anything because he was sleeping on the couch, and I'd rather be on an uncomfortable bed instead, hah.
Friday night's show was totally worth it for Cuff the Duke (who I've spent the last year believing were broken up... no, just working on a new album!). Meg and I split a mickey of peach schnapps in the FP basement with a box of Admiral's fries, which we shared with Tim Ford and Tim from We're Marching On. Tim actually chipped a tooth when taking a shot of fireball, because Tim F kicked the bottle when it was in his mouth. It was hilariously dangerous (he was okay, though! so it was all good).
Saturday, I spent most of the day either doing homework or with Jon's mom. I bought some embroidery thread and a hoop from Fabricland so I would work on my fashion project (which I didn't get around to doing until today, haha). When he got back from work, Jon and I chilled out and watched Zoolander. He definitely fell asleep and started snoring, haha, so I poked him with my knitting needles.
Saturday's show wasn't as great, really, although I did get to "steal" one of Joe's paintings from the FP basement (more like rescue- the water damage on it is horrible :(). I got kind of bored of the bands and the people, and didn't really want to hang around, so I went to my cousin's apartment up the street. We watched Night of the Living Dead (which I've never seen before! But it's a great movie), and I got up to pee in the middle of the movie, and one of his damn cats jumped out of the shower at me.
The Bicycles were good fun. They always are. Some people were talking about how it's different because Randy is gone, but they were still tight. They also have a board game now, hah, but I opted for a "B" shirt instead.
Had a chat with JG on the ride home. Funny how my opinion of people changes so quickly.
Sunday, I got to sleep in. After running some errands, Jon and I went to Brantford Mall (ghettooooo) to get some Sourkeys from the Bulk Barn, and me some drinks from LCBO. Afterwards we poked around Value Village for a bit, but didn't get anything (but found some hilariously 90s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers lunch boxes). Talked to KR, made plans to get supper with him later, then watched Nacho Libre but we both fell asleep haha.
6:30ish we picked up Kyle and got supper at a Chinese buffet. It was pretty good but pricey- I prefer the $6 buffet in Simcoe haha. I love jello cubes.
The show was packed, not surprising, seeing as it was free. Belinda and Miranda showed up, which was exciting. :) They played the Transylvania 500 shockumentary, but I got kind of bored and left to call my parents. Mark, Paul and Mike invited me to get coffee with them, and I got to ride in the Sourkeys deathtrap tour van. Mike Mercy is pretty much the worst driver ever haha. Paul kept pointing out what he was doing wrong, and Mike was like "Hey you're not a cop yet!"
Oh, miss. ♥ Miss miss.
I ended up drinking my coolers out of the washed out Tim's cup, and sharing my "juice" with Bel and Mir. Didn't get the least bit tipsy, but I didn't really feel like getting drunk after all that chinese food. Aaaah!
Arrows was fun. I missed Ryan Stanley's music, but he is doing great things nowadays.
Brigitte and Raccoon Wedding were worth mentioning. I definitely stole Ty's foam firefighter's hat and wore it while he played, so he was just onstage in a red jumpsuit, haha.
While one of the bands were playing, Bel, Mir and I snatched up some CDs, and the last two Sourkeys t-shirts EVER. They're a Medium and a Large, but I'm planning on adding darting to mine to take it in a bit. Hopefully Mrs V will be able to help me out a bit.
I definitely passed around the huge bag of sourkeys while the Sourkeys were setting up. They played a ridiculously fun last show, ending, of course, with Demon or Deity, where a bunch of us got up on stage to sing and dance along. Ridiculously fun.
I gave each of them a giant hug and thanked them for years of entertainment.
I'm tired as shit, as I got back at like 8 this morning, but I've just been vegging on the couch all day. Hell, it's taken me since before noon to write this (it's 4:30 now).
So tired, but so worth it.
If you care to see, there are some pictures here. Mostly of the Sourkeys show, but a few others.
