A three minute boil will result in a very slimy white and super runny yolk. I prefer four minutes which will be an almost entirely formed/ cooked white with the yolk still being slightly runny.

Set eggs out for about 10 minutes, then put desired eggs in pan. Put water in there, just cover the eggs don't fill it up. I usually cover it at this point and put on high to bring to a solid boil, once boiling bring to low heat if you have a gas or electric, if it is a flat top you can kill the heat and the residual will usually sustain it enough. Be sure to remove the cover. The bigger the egg the longer you need to let it sit in the simmer, 10 for medium and 13-14 for extra large.
God damn you got me typing...
Now take it and run cool water over them until water in pan is cool to the touch. You should be good to go, some people will crack the eggs on the side soon as the water is cool. It helps get the peel off. At least that is what I was always told.
If you want soft boild you will just have to google that shit.

If you put the eggs in the water when it's hot, the yold will turn green due to the copper in the yolks. It'll migrate into the water if you start out in cold.
