Ugh, that was painful.
It mostly consisted of men telling Korra what to do, and Korra struggling for agency. But when she trusts her instincts it turns out she was wrong.
Korra didn’t interact with Katara, her mother or Kya. We only see dudes mentoring Korra as the Avatar.
Bolin was still only comic-relief.
There was a lot of disturbing colourism and cultural appropriation.
Korra/Mako feels so contrived to me.
I like Mako being a supportive boyfriend, but after season 1, it’s really hard to buy. It just seems like they’re writing a different character now.
The writers are trying really hard to get the audience to like Mako. It’s not working. At least not for me. Why is he a cop? And a teenage lone cop at that. And why is Lin praising him when he pulled reckless shit that Korra arrested and yelled at.
All Korra had to do was poke at the spirit portal, not interact with the spirits or meditate? The ending felt so rushed.
I don’t like the idea of “dark spirits.” The balance was extremely off in A:TLA because of a century long war, but the spirits never went “dark.” They didn’t work by human morality. That was kind of ridiculous.
The only good things in it were:
Asami’s brief appearance
Katara being heartbreaking
Tenzin and sibling interactions
Hints of Jinora’s future Spirit World adventures
I might watch a little more to see more of Jinora’s story line, but I doubt I’m going to get through the whole season.
