Dear Mrs. Turner,
Hi! This is Elle Winters from Sounis with Velvetrose! We're very excited to write our very first fan letter + questions and we hope you'll humor us by writing back.
Elle: First off, I just want to say, that I love your Queen's Theif series. I love the plots and the twists, the characters and the way they develope. You're amazing. With that said, I really admire not just your work but you as a author. I really do. You're definitely who has made it to my "role model/I want to be like..when I grow up list". I recently discovered QT (as I posted in my intro on Sounis) over the summer while I was suffering post-epic-Harry Potter-is-missing-from-my-life-what-do-I-do. Well, I was lucky enough to run into The Thief when my little brother brought it home. My first thought was "well..this looks pretty epic" but while reading the story I kept telling my sister "this guy's a tweek (aka Joke)!". Boy, was I wrong. I also remember telling her "see, not all good books have ROMANCE in them" boy, was I wrong..again. I loved The Theif and was really unsure about reading QoA because I wasn't sure about the Queen of Attolia. Anyways, long story short, I did read it, I couldn't say away and then read KoA too. And, well, they were brilliant. I'm glad that I read them recently, I don't know how I would wait 5 years for the next one to come out! I guess I just got lucky :). Anyways, thank you so much for writing stories filled with brilliant awesomeness :] and pure amazing that are HIGHLY underated. They definitely deserve more attention. By the way, I'm VERY glad you updated your website, it is very user friendly now.
VelvetRose: I would go home and think to myself, what quirky thing would Gen do if he was here now? And well...the possiblities suddenly became endless. So thank you, for writing such a lovely story.
And now, we are so filled with question and we're hoping you could give us some answers. We want to post the questions on Sounis (but don't worry we'll only post the non-spoilery/non plot related ones) and we understand that you can't answer them all..or even have the time too. So no worries! We're just giving you a bunch of questions in hopes that a few of them get answered!
1. How old is Gen? (Just kidding...we know you're NOT going to answer that one)
I thought he was around 18 in The Theif when I first read it, but then some smarty pants did some calculations and I think I've settled with 15/16ish
I always thought he was 15/16ish haha.
1. (real question) Do they celebrate birthdays in Eddis?
2. Does the Magus's name have to do with time?
3. In KoA, Gen stays up with Relius during the "dog watch of the night" we assume he knows this is the worst hour because he's been through it, we're wondering who stayed up with Gen during that time?
4. Phresine, what's her story? How did she come to serve Attolia?
5. What was Attolia's mother like?
6. How come we don't see any of Gen's numerous brothers and sisters visit him after he comes back from Attolia? Particularly Stenides. (From the book we know that he doesn't have any other visitors besides his father and Eddis)
7. Does Stenides still live in Eddis's palace? Is he married?
8. In The Theif Gen mentions all his siblings have the same father. There is some speculation about if they have the same mother? (Can you confirm/deny?)
9. What was Attolia's childhood like? Did she ever have any friends?
10. Was there a possible romance between Attolia and Relius (that Attolia was not aware of)?
11. Was Relius in love with Attolia?
12. Will we hear any more stories about Gen's childhood? Was there anyone that could control Gen? If so, who? :)
13. Who are Eugenides's true friends? Do you believe a monarchs/sovereign leaders can have true friends?
14. A lot of people ship Eddis and Magus, was there a possible intention behind this? Are the Magus and Eddis just friends?
15. How do you come up with the plot lines? Do you have the whole thing planned out?
16. The book deals with love marriages, and marriage for political reasons. What do you believe about love? Do you think people should marry for love?
17. How was the marriage between Gen's mother and father?
18. Did Gen see his mother fall?
19. Are you planning on writing two more books after CoKs? How long can we expect to wait? Should we sign up for knitting classes?
20. How do you think of your chacters? Many authors have said their characters are like their children? Are Eddis, Gen, Sophos..etc like your children?
21. Do you think of you characters by their names when you write? ex: Attolia as Irene or Attolia
22. Elle did a superlatives thing on Sounis and a LOT of people voted Sophos and Helen as most likely to end up with 8 kids...does this suprise you?
(I for one voted for myself and Dite, and then found out another Sounisian was already married to him..and THEN we both ended up divorsing him because we believe he was stll in love with Irene..:)
So, so, so yes, we've given you a million questions. It was reaaallly hard to narrow it down so we'll leave that up to you! So answer which ever one you want/can :] Even one word answers..like no, or yes.. We'd really, really, really appreciate it!
