*scrolls through post* lalalalalalalalala!!

I'm not going to read it 'cause I don't want spoilers (beyond those in the first 5 chapters that have already been released), but I just wanted to say: I'm so jealous of you guys! Have fun discussing. Make sure to save up some comments for when the rest of us get it. ;) Like that's gonna be hard.

Don't worry!! It's totally worth the wait! I can't wait till you get to read it!! I'm serious, I reaaaly can't!! Only a few more weeks! Can you believe it? We'll both be graduating soon too...!!

I will post any and all discussion on Sounis (as said above) and this way I'll be able to organize it more, seeing as once we read it, most of us tend to be incoherent! :D

You can actually do a more limited lock on your post so it only goes to people on a list you create -- but advertising spoilers is probably just as good ( ... )

And a parallel story in the way neither of them are able to see how others view them--Sophos seeing only his faults--and non-existent faults usuallly--and, as elle says, Gen underestimating his worth.

What was she getting at with the two Ions, do you think?

I wondered that, too.

Agreed.

I also think that when Sophos talks about how aloof and formal Gen is being, he fails to realize that he's doing it too, and just as well.

I think that Attolia was the only one that wasn't heavily emotionally affected. She knew what had to be done and her priorities were obvious: her country, Attolia, and her husband, Attolis.

You know that one comment she makes about her being a fussy old woman? and Gen says that they day that would happen he would have two knives under his pillow, I er..lost the implication on that one, anyone care to explain?

Ion reminded me of polyatomic ions which reminded me of chemistry which reminded me of the chemistry MONSTER.

I LOVE Sophos's father. =)

I'm concerned about Gen's health, too.

Heart-in-hand thing: I think because Gen likes Sophos, trusts Sophos, thinks Sophos would make a good king, etc. and Gen doesn't want to see Sophos throw that away (like mwt said, Sophos has a choice). Gen is facing the reality that he needs to unite the countries if they're to have any chance at all against the coming Mede. And I think he really, really wanted Sophos to be king in Sounis, even though it breaks his heart to put Sophos into that kind of submissive position. Thoughts?

Very interesting that Sounis swears allegiance to ATTOLIS. I couldn't help but think of the part in KoA when Costis wonders whose side he'd end up on, if the king and queen of Attolia were at odds...

I puzzled over the inscription on the gun, too.

Still puzzling over the sword fight.

AND. Costis as ambassdor? I hadn't thought of that! I'm not sure if I see Costis as the diplomatic type...

Costis is conspicuous in his absence. That's all I know. What could mwt be up to...?

Oh, I do too, I can see him and MoW getting along quite well.

Your hand in heart theory strikes true with me. Gen would never want to put someone he cares so much about in such a submissive position (great way to phrase it) and now that I think about it, it upset him that he stole Attolia's throne too.

In KoA we see how Gen protects Irene Attolia. I think in aCoK a lot of what we see is Attolia being protective of Gen. I do wonder if that makes all the difference though, being sworn to ATTOlIS and not Attolia.

Costis: Gen did have him learn about the Mede, and who knows, maybe he's NOT an ambassador maybe he's spying as we know now Relius is useless in his job. However, it is difficult for me to see Costis being a spy, what with his moral compass and all..

Oh, I wonder, you know what? I realy wouldn't mind the next one being in Gen's POV. I really actually want it to be. I mean REALLY, REALLY!

More thoughts.

Perhaps Sophos had Gen's heart in his hand in terms of his reaction to what looked like Gen's power-grab? Sophos figures out before the end that friend-Gen is on his side, even if king-Gen must give the opposite appearance at times.

Also: I love the Gen/Eddis moments and the Sophos/Eddis relationship. How does mwt do it? I start each book so skeptical, and by the end she has me saying, "But of course! That's just how it should be. I'm so happy." =D

YES!
Gen/Eddis moments were amazingly. Oh, especially when she goes up to the tower. It's just...wow.
I'm so glad Gen's there to take her into his arms and tell her everything's going to be okay. Because up until now, we've seen such a confident Eddis.

AND OMG EDDIS AND SOPHOS
I agree! HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!?
It's amazing!! I can't even begin to explain. It's so perfect. They're so perfect. And it doesn't come off as two side characters getting together (as it happens in many other books) it's two amazing people with such an honest love for each other. (well..mostly honest)
Oh, you know what I just realized? THERE WAS NO KISS? I'm SQUEEING AbOUT ROMANCE...but there wasn't even a KISS. HOW DOES SHE DO IT?

Another thought: Gen tells Eddis: You sent me to Attolia. And so does Sophos. Does Eddis think it's her fault? I mean even if she didn't send him, I'm having a hard time believing Gen would stay away from Attolia.
