on the timeline of events, where does Gen watching Dite purpose to Irene go between the orange tree, and the hand chopping and boat/marriage purposal?

I'm not sure exactly when. I'd say after orange-tree, after Hamiathes Gift, but before the hand-chopping... so I'd set it between the events of TT and QoA.

Though I guess it doesn't specifically say that he has two hands at that point, so its possible that it was during QoA... I just didn't get that impression.

*needs to re-read but ALL FOUR BOOKS ARE CURRENTLY IN OTHER HANDS*

Oh, I know, I would just really like to know in the timeline of events...

My best guess is after TT and before QT? During one of his spy missions for Eddis before he was caught.

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO ASK THIS.

Who is "she"--the one in the kitchens who puts sand in Gen's food, who loves the queen and hates Gen, whose identity is known to Gen but he's protecting her from the queen?

I guess we really don't have many clues to go on (at least, none that are readily apparent... *waggles eyebrows*) but its interesting to think about...

Not sure if we have any evidence to go either way with this one, though I do wonder...

The purpose of the scene is to show how things are still not running perfectly. Though I love Sophos helping himself to some, I can only imagine how much that would mean to Gen. He's been at the act for quite a while all by himself.

And he's been eating sand food for 3 books now, poor king!

Chole maybe? (though she's not in the kitchens-maybe she was permanently sent there?)

and another line that broke my heart was the one about Sophos being one of the few people that held Attolis's heart in his hand. And I couldn't help but think how easily a heart in a hand could be crushed.
Yes, he is. So many times, it mentioned his physicians. I feel so worried for him. I don't like that he is really damaged like that.

LOL no, I don't think that's why Gen is sick those are two different thoughts, I clearly suck at being coherant.

But I meant reading that description, the hand in heart I thought damn, I wouldn't want someone to hold my heart in their hand, that's a pretty darn vunerable place for a heart, esp. Gen's!

The girl in the kitchen is Dite's first you know. She's pissed at Gen because now she can't be the King's confidant/mistress, which she might have been if Dite had been successful in his proposal.
