“.. and so I said to her, oh!” Pansy swivelled in her seat. “Look who’s finally deigned to join us!”
“Sorry we’re late,” Harry said. “Draco…”
Pansy held up a hand. “I’m sure none of us want to hear the sordid details of your relationship,” she said with a mock sniff. “You’re here now.”
Harry blushed and Draco just smirked. In fact they had been late because Draco couldn’t decide what to wear, but if the others were going to imagine it was because they were going at it, well, he wasn’t going to correct them.
As Pansy continued her earlier story, Harry and Draco took their seats. This little Wizarding restaurant was one that Seamus had suggested and the group of friends sitting around the table was now complete, with the exception of Neville who hadn’t been able to come back across the Atlantic for their get together. Harry and Draco quickly joined the conversation, ordering when the waitress came up.
“So how are you all doing?” Draco asked when there was a break in their talk.
Blaise pulled a face. “A word of advice: never work with goblins. Harsh little buggers, all of them.”
Hermione laughed. “You two missed his earlier complaints. Anyone would have thought he was being forced to drive those awful carts himself!”
“How about a swap?” Blaise offered. “As you think it’s so easy.”
“Hermione works really hard!” Ron protested.
“What about you?” Harry asked Seamus quickly, before a full scale row broke out. Although everyone got along reasonably well now, the compulsion to push each other at every opportunity had not entirely been eradicated.
“Still trying to find a job,” Seamus said. “If you want to work then you need experience, but to get experience you need to work. I haven’t found somewhere that will take me so far.”
“You know that I could always have a word with my dad for you,” Ron offered. “No promises, but if you’re really stuck…”
Seamus smiled. “Thanks. I might take you up on that if I can’t find anything in the near future.”
As the group started to discuss the benefit of unemployment versus working, Harry felt Draco lean closer to his side.
“Want to shock them?” Draco whispered in his ear.
“What?”
Draco sighed. “I want to kiss you, you prat.”
“Oh.” Harry turned to more fully face his boyfriend. “I think I could cope with that.”
When the pair surfaced for air, slightly flushed and red lipped, they found all of their friends staring at them.
“I was right about you two not being able to keep your hands off each other,” Seamus commented.
Pansy rolled her eyes. “Like that’s news. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other since the first year of Hogwarts. The amount of times that Draco would go on and on about Harry then get into fistfights with him…”
“Does this mean I can kiss Hermione and no-one will complain?” Ron piped up from the other side of the table and all eyes turned to them. He shrugged. “Well, you don’t seem to mind their public displays of affection…”
Draco laughed. “That’s because we’re special.” He looked at Harry. “And hot.”
Ron threw a chip at him. The bill for cleaning up the food at the end of their meal was excessive, but nobody could claim that they hadn’t enjoyed themselves.
As always, comments are welcome!
