I can't believe this is happening

Right now, as I type this, my parents are discussing in the next room the possibility of me marrying the son of one of their old friends so he can get papers to stay in the US.

A guy I don't remember meeting whose name I don't know.

They're offering me 10k. The guy and his family.

I don't know how I'm going to say no to this.

The worst part it's for a guy I don't know. If it was one of my cousins, I'd be willing to consider it at least. My father only got here because his cousin fake married him and then they got divorced, which is why I'm here.

But I don't know this guy. And it's not as simple as just signing some papers. We'd have to get an address together and we'd have to stay "married" for years until he got his green card. We'd have to do interviews where immigration officials would determine if we're faking or not.

But to say that my family could really use the ten grand is an understatement. He's family is rich in DR but getting an American wife is the only way to move here.
