Ever write a melody or riff or something, and think, OK, I HAVE to have heard that somewhere, but...WHERE? Is it truly new and unique, or is it just an echo in my brain of something I've heard and can't remember now?

I've got this great thing I'm working on now, but I keep feeling I had to have heard it somewhere before. But I can't place it.

Record it and play it for me. I have a pretty good ear for music. I can't sing or play, but I have a really good ear for tunes.

That's actually why I gave up on music... I couldn't come up with something original to save my life. The few songs I was SURE were original - I would play for people and they would say "Is that such and such?"

I would look up "such and such", and sure enough, I learned how to do something that was already written.

Hi, El,
It's your old bud, CC, from "music apreciation 1975", which means Led Zeppelin, KISS, the Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath. Okay, we may have also listened to Patti Smith, the Ramones, David Bowie and Siouxie & the Banshees too.
So, what you described there happens to me all the time. I wrote a song last month and went to Google to make sure the there wasn't a song or anything with similar lyrics floating around. And there wasn't. Which is a good thing because it's a kickass song, if I do say so myself.
I love it that we are both still writing music after all these years.
