This painting combines my love of Norman Rockwell and my team. How did I not know there is a whole SERIES of baseball paintings by him!

I had the opportunity about ten years ago to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit when it was in San Diego. There was a wall with every single Saturday Evening Post with his illustrated covers. Amazing. Especially when you could walk around to then look at originals which were on display. The originals are quite large too, ie 5'x3' or 6'x4'.

I am wondering about where the locker room is located for this painting. Where is summer camp for the Red Sox? I see palm fronds in the window. Are there palms in Boston?

He was able to capture scenes with amazing detail. I love how this looks like the people have been caught mid-movement and frozen.

That must have been a really great show! How lucky that you got to see it. The Sox are in the grapefruit league for spring training, which is in Florida. That's the only explanation I could imagine for palms.

Yeah, that makes sense. I did a little bit of a head tilt when I saw the palms. Those are not trees I associate with Boston.

The show was really incredible. I spent a bit of time looking at a few of the paintings simply due to the detail he put into them. They are not painted flat. They actually have texture. So, folds in fabric are three dimensional as they stand off the canvas. There was one painting with a wooden chest of drawers where the wood grain was a different finish, ie glossier, so that it popped like real wood.
