Anyone have good Harry Potter fanfic recommendations? I'm already reading Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness.

No, but I can put you on to some information about the guy who wrote that piece He is not a good guy...

Not what you were asking, but just a cautionary word.

I have gathered that he is a troubled fellow (his tumblr is quite active with people who love him and hate him and his own accounts of his journey through extreme mental illness sounds harrowing for sure). Still though, his work is very good. Thanks for the heads up, but what do you mean by "cautionary word"?

I don't read gossip mags or watch television (except very occasionally), but I admit to a slightly unhealthy interest in abnormal psych and I cannot look away from a train wreck.

Mostly because I am interested in how narcissism affects people (both the narcissist and their victims) I stumbled into reading about the crazy maze that this guy has constructed in real life. Or, at least, as real as it gets for him. First, I want to tell you that I honestly do not believe he's mentally ill, certainly not in the way he claims to be. Really, really, really. I see genuinely schizophrenic people in the course of my work, this is most assuredly NOT how they behave. He may have his parents and his current doctor fooled (you or I could do the same with a little research and an average level of acting ability), but I think this 'mental illness' thing is a sham. He does have a walloping personality disorder and apparently no real interest in a meaningful change of behavior.

There are SO many threads to the story, and it's interesting in the way ( ... )

I think he's a weirdo for sure. And the cult he developed was weird, too. But his Harry Potter-based stories are great! I feel very sad for the people who became ensnared with him. Is he a Portlander???

Oh my God, yes, I totally do.

But um... what do you like? Pairings? No pairings? Themes? In Hogwarts? Out of Hogwarts? New? Old? Plaid?

I'm mostly into post-Hogwarts stories, I like the Maurauders, and the vast majority of what I read has romance in it, usually between men Harry and Draco, or Remus and Sirius, (so obvs I also like Alternate Universe stuff where Sirius doesn't die). But I have a pretty big collection of stuff that was just too good not to read despite it not being up my alley, so let me know what you like and I'll hook you up. Like all good drug dealers, the first hit is free. ;)

Hahahahahaha, ooooooh so good. I don't really know what I like - although I'm not really into m/m pairings. Any f/fs would probably be hotter to me. :) But I guess I'm not really looking for that kind of thing, more just like good writing, good stories, and yes, post Hogwarts. Or anything with the side characters. I keep wanting to read more about ... like Olivander's daughter, or Prof McGon's childhood, etc. That's why I'm liking DAYD - it's all from Neville's POV, which is new for me.

Did you ever see these fanart posters? http://www.themarysue.com/harry-potter-posters/2/

I want to read THAT. But also anything else you want to share. I have a AO3 account and there's lots there, obviously, but it's hard to sort through it all. Any points in a direction are appreciated!!
