Fascinating idea and interesting execution. Your John doesn't sound much as TV-John, but, apparently he is in search of his personality, destroyed by some evil forces. I wonder if you have broken down the whole plot - like, who deleted their memories and why it was done, and what kind of mojo is required to bring them back.
Looking forward for more. In any case, the originality and the ambition of the story are very impressive.
My John isn't really TV-John at all. He's mostly just an extremely confused Spike who thinks his name is John. I'll try to include a timeline of what he's been up to since we saw him on Torchwood and why he's so different in the next chapter. I was originally going to refer to him as just Spike, but I decided to change it to John to make his decision to become Spike have more of an impact, if that makes sense.
A lot of my "lore" when it comes to the main characters is going to stem from Dollhouse, but it'll be slightly different. I've worked out how everything got to where it is present day, but I'm still etching out how everyone is going to get back together and save the day. A lot of the next few chapters is going to be background explanations.
I actually got the idea from a post someone made on Tumblr about how they rationalized seeing a couple of the Buffyverse actors on current TV shows, and came up with my own headcannon using Dollhouse, then turned it into a fic.
John Hart is basically a slutty time travelling con man who in one episode makes all of the main characters miserable (and makes out with Jack, the main character who he had a five year thing with) and in another episode is manipulated into doing more bad things, but ends up helping save the day. He decides to give up time travelling and explore the world.
For this story though, he's already Spike, but doesn't really know it yet. The next chapter clears that up a lot.
I really hope my writing lives up to even half of the potential of this idea because it's just such a cool and limitless concept.
And yes! Spuffy! I have to throw that in there because 90% of the fanfic I've read has been Spuffy so I don't know how else to write Spike's POV, haha. <3
