To begin, I'd like to state here and now that it has been a royal PAIN trying to get online for the past couple of days. I'm not sure whether the blame rests on my internet provider's doorstep or if someone up there just doesn't like me.

Laurell K. Hamilton.
I imagine some of you are either hissing in pain, nodding energetically, or wondering who the hell she is,.
Let me explain, Laurell K. Hamilton is one of the most popular Vampire-fiction authors in the last... Oh, say, *several* years, as an overall "blanketed" statement. I believe she's been writing for about ten, but I may be mistaken. (Just did the math, it's OVER ten years.)
She really is an excellent writer, most people fell head-over-heels for her tough-as-nails Vampire Executioner character, Anita Blake. True, there are often descriptions or phrases that are repeated throughout her books, but I can personally give her some leeway since she's writing in first-person, and people's thoughts really CAN be repetitive... It's not *uncommon* to reuse the same phrases or expressions in everyday talk or thoughts, it's just more NOTICEABLE in the books. So I do my best to ignore them where I can or just laugh at the playful barbs other people poke about them.
I know one of my fascinations with her work is that she opens up new worlds for me, and that's all you can really ask of an author. Take her new series: The Merry Gentry books.
Based solely around screwing yourself to the top. Literally. ;) But what draws me to the series is her take on Faerie creatures. I LOVE the world she's created, and I enjoy reading about Merry's latest exploits... (Though I certainly DO wish Ms. Hamilton'd ease up on the men coming (HA! A pun!) into Merry's life each book)
It makes me kinda annoyed when I hear people bash Hamilton constantly because she's made Anita out to be Slut-of-monters-everywhere. *pause for a beat* This is NOT untrue... ;)
But HONESTLY. SO, WHAT. They're HER characters. It *IS* a bummer, but it's not as though she went out of her way to piss off her loyal fans. I still read her books because I want to KNOW what's going to happen next, even when I AM disappointed in some parts... *cough*
Anyway. Either take the author and the books as they are, or shut up. Because I don't see any of the people that are making scathing remarks go out and write their OWN books...
And this is not to say that readers shouldn't speak up when they are unhappy or annoyed with a turn the author has taken... That comes with the writer/reader relationship after all... But outright bashing is just annoying. People need to come to terms with the direction the books are going and either go with the flow or stop reading rather than ranting on and on constantly.
