When
yamguitar and I first moved in to our house nearly two! years ago, we had a short-lived swarm of
Asian Lady Beetles tromp through the place.
I like to think they were offering their blessings as "Beetles of our Lady" or ladybugs are typically viewed as bringing good luck and love. They are good luck for farmers and aphid-free harvests. And, many Asian cultures posit that if you whisper your true love's name to a ladybug, it will fly to the beloved and whisper your name in his ear thereby bonding him to you forever (or some such variation of the story among thousands). Thus, we talked briefly about adding a ladybug motif to our decor... decor that really has yet to get started even now.
So, I'm looking for inspiration for these white walls and thinking ladybugs. However, decorating with ladybug inspired ideas will require tremendous caution as overdoing it or doing in too whimsical a style can quickly become precious. Neither Yam nor I are "precious" so that won't work. The good thing about using ladybugs as a starting place for design is that they are simply shaped for the most part and easy to reproduce in a number styles. The bad thing is that the simplicity of their design has made them the muse for much, much bad art and design. Looking around the interwebs, one could go into sugar shock when Googling "ladybug art." However, I'm finding a few inspirational pieces. Something to start a room color-wise or shape-wise.
Like this Oaxacan folk-art piece for a bathroom I'm considering teal for anyway
Or this piece of furniture, not this exactly but it shows how something might be inspired
