A soft 'ping' accompanied the parting of the elevator doors. Unsure what she'd expected, the precariously stacked old desk chairs and dented filing cabinets certainly didn't give her much hope. The B1 level appeared more like an abandoned storage room than the lair of a mad genius Blevins had implied.
Making her was slowly through the obstacle course of clutter, she noted a mountain of battered file boxes labelled "1978 Vehicle Requisitions" and wondered what could have sent someone as supposedly brilliant as this Agent Mulder was down into this useless rat's nest. What of value could he have possibly found here?
Halfway down the hall, there was a break in the miscellany lining the corridor. The clearing was just the width of the closed office door, brass nameplate labeling it the office of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Surveying the abandoned mess around her, she wondered what she'd gotten herself into.
Drawing a deep breath, she rapped on the door.
