I started this on ephemeral yesterday and after reading the second part there today decided I was too impatient to see the rest of the story and migrated over here. Hannah's a great character, and I think Mulder and Scully were pretty darn in character. One can't expect too many Mulder trademark wisecracks when the man has suffered so. I also agree with the viewpoint that Scully did the right thing not trading herself and the child for Mulder's freedom -- and that Mulder would not ever have wanted to her do such a thing.

My only real quibble is that now I want more of this AU. Maybe Mulder could consult with Scully on some weird body that comes to her pathology lab? And I'd like further interaction with the family, maybe also bringing in Scully's brother Bill and some real presence of Maggie Scully. To keep this six-parter a reasonable length you had to pick your moments. Maybe if you feel the inspiration, you might fill in more about when Mulder first got to talk to Hannah, etc.

Really nice. Got me thinking. Thank you.

Thank you! I'm glad you found your way over here and enjoyed reading this story. Its great to hear that you found M&S to be in character, which is one of the best compliments an author can get.

Given that I was writing under a deadline for Big Bang, I did have to make some decisions on what I really had time to fully explore with the story. I'm glad it left you wanting more!

(So late working through the big bang stories! oy.)

I really love this. The choices Scully's made are so real and honest--what option did she have, to keep fighting with a baby and no partner? And Mulder's relief that coming back to his life is palpable.

I also found the epilogue adorable. :)

Better late than never! (I got so burnt out trying to read everything the week they were posted for Big Bang.)

I'm so glad you liked this and thought the characters reactions to the situation felt honest. For characters as complex as M&S, that's saying a lot, and I appreciate it!
