I think in another time and another place, it would be interesting to listen to a conversation between the two of them!

I've been enjoying the whole thing, but this bit really got me:

Mulder and Billy were apparently done, discussing a coming book report on "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe," which she vaguely remembered, and was surprised the boy was reading it already. Mulder, on the other hand, seemed to think it perfectly ordinary reading material for the boy, and was making the case for the darker stories of Roald Dahl and "The Hobbit."

Ohhh, Mulder. Mulder and his big brain, talking kid-lit and fantasy fiction with William. Ach, my heart! (That, and the Vince Lombardi rest stop, are really crystallizing Mulder's character for me. Heh.)

I'm glad you're enjoying this! It's good to hear that the little things are really capturing the characters for those reading.

(Though there really is a Lombardi rest stop on the NJ Turnpike--the randomly named rest stops are about the only entertaining thing about driving through NJ. I'm sure Walt Whitman would be very proud there are toilets and a Burger King named after him.)

I've been to the Walt Whitman rest stop!--and thought the very same thing, haha...
