Sherlock season 2

Just finished watching Sherlock season 2 and I didn't enjoy it as much as season 1, sad to say.

I found the writing a little sloppy, which is what happens when Moffat gets self-indulgent. For a man who can write incredibly creepy yet realistic stories the end of A Scandal in Belgravia was just dumb. I did not like the casting of Irene Adler. In A Scandal in Bohemia, Adler outwitted Holmes using her brain. Yes, she was stunningly lovely but she didn't resort to being arch, which is how she was played in Sherlock. No need for the Sherlock rescue scene at the end, Irene Adler didn't need help to get her out of a sticky situation.

I think the biggest shame is the casting of Jim Moriarty. He's so not Moriarty that I am actually convinced he's 'Richard Brook' who was hired to play Moriarty - not by Sherlock but by Moriarty himself. Moriarty is not the sort of person you want to smack in the nose. He's cool not twee. He's sharp not whiny.

The saving graces are Mark Gatiss as Mycroft and Rupert Graves as Lestrade. They are perfectly cast, despite Mycroft being far more energetic than he was in the books. Indeed, if the whole series revolved around them I'd be much keener.
