Ooh! So many great things to put on my to-read list XD I've read HP and the Engelsfors books, and the first few Molly Moon ones, but the rest, not so much. Though I've heard of the zombie ones, and was planning on adding them to my list but I must've forgotten about it :P
Great challenge entry, and I like your tatse in books XD You ever tried The Hitchhiker's Guide? Or Sword of Truth? Oh, and how about the Odd books by Dean Koontz? Any classics you like? :)
I definitely recommend all of them! Obviously. :P The zombie ones have taken over my brain recently, so they are heavily recommended!
Yay! I have read The Hitchhiker's Guide! I love the first one, and I think I've read all of the second one as well, but sadly I usually get bored around that time. :/ I should probably try reading them again though. I haven't read the other books you mentioned though! I'll look into them for sure. :) I'm not really a fan of classics, and I haven't read many at all. I do love LoTR though, if that one counts as a classic.
Some of this sound really interesting, especially the female protagonists, and the characters in general! :) It's funny because my first reaction is "I don't really like fantasy books", and then I realize that the vast majority (heck, almost all!) of my favorite tv shows are fantasy, and that epic complex characters can totally exist in any setting. :D I think I just still haven't read many fantasy books that can do it (because I'm not trying to find them, I admit), so I see fantasy books as "plot before characters", and that's something I really don't like. But many of these sound different than that! :)
I get your feeling! I think a lot of fantasy books can be very plot-based, and have very complex plots, and I do think it can take over a while. For me though, the characters are the most important things, so I try to look for fantasy books that have both plot and characters. I would especially recommend The Queen's Thief series (especially the second and third, those are pretty character-based imo), The Engelsfors Trilogy (for all the wonderful female characters) and the Leviathan Trilogy for awesome characters. :)
I can't care about plot at all if I don't love/like/relate to at least one character first (I mean, why should I care what happens if I don't care about the people it happens to xD), so yeah, it is very important to me too. Thank you for the recs! :D
How did I not see this when I first friended you? I approve of these choices, especially Queen's Thief (which is just exquisitely crafted), Midnighters, Molly Moon, Harry Potter, and of course VA as we have briefly discussed before. I've read the first three or 4 books of the Sweep series as well as that special edition finale, but never did finish it, and it wasn't because I didn't like it either -- I just never got around to it.
I'm happy you approve and that you found this entry! :D I really love all of these books so it makes me happy when other people love them too! :) Actually, I haven't finished the Sweep series either, I think I've read to book 8 or 9? I just haven't had the time/money/energy to buy the rest of them yet but I really need to do that soon. :)
YA FANTASY IS DEFINITELY THE BEST. FAVORITE GENRE FOREVER. This summer I think I'm going to reread all of these books and try and get back into a reading mood again, because I haven't read anything for ages now. :(
