I Had it All Wrong

I thought I knew about special relativity, until last Friday, when I actually learned about it.  There were holes in my understanding, I knew, but as it turned out, I pretty much didn't know anything.  I don't think most people except physics students really know what it's like to feel like you have a good grasp on things, then realize that there ( Read more... )

Oh Jeez, I hope bitching about my grandpa didn't screw with your beliefs!
I think if I didn't have my personal experiences, I would generally believe that humans are only here when they're alive. My mother makes her living as a psychic, making connections to both the living and the dead, but I think she's crazy. In my mind, if any residual were to exist, it would be in charge of making the contact, like my grandpa. Unlike you, I don't have a religious background to give me a basis for my beliefs, so I have to base everything off my own findings. I tend to sway towards a party-pooping scientific stance on most things spiritual.
I really like what you said about the effect we've had on the people around us in life. That makes sense. Whether it helps you make a decision either way, hold on to that.

Good job, considering this was a late night rambling.

I wouldn't say it screwed with me, but just gave me something to think about. As I told my friend Billy when discussing my previous entry, your experiences aren't mine, and thus are by necessity less "real" to me. Especially considering that some people's personal experiences seem to contradict each other. How do you reconcile that without saying saying either "I think you're lying" or "I think you're crazy"?
