Whirling Dust Bunnies Took Over

I have to say that my energy has been zapped by my disapreciation and frustration of my Father's visit. We left each other being on very poor terms. He sent me a proverb that placed me in the sewage of a street, and placed him on the high ground giving me a hand up! I am not sure if I take that very kindly, but, I am trying to keep my cool and ( Read more... )

you know what i love most about you and amaris jeremy? you are patently not "AMERICAN". you don't believe that giving paltry aid is motive enough to shine up your haloes. and you do believe that the rest of the world has huge amounts to offer. i'm ALWAYS suspicious of people who do the aid thing as they do it because their hearts are moved by something they see on tv.

the sbs (like npr a bit) broadcasting station here used to show a program about switching cultures. people from america were sent to live in nepalese villages, with hunting tribes in africa, among aboriginals in australia etc. i loved that program because people finally understood what it means to be poor, to be hungry, to see your culture and your traditions decimated.

sorry, i'm not being terribly complimentary to your dad or karen or to the thousands of people who do give aid, which is very important. but i agree that there should be a greater awareness and more respect in the process.

I totally agree! Although I didn't know about your dad.

Anyway, what's the word on the crazy Pope visiting? Rioting in the streets? Take pictures of the pope and photoshop them, it will be hilarious.

I read the protests actually were minor. While my mom and I were still in Turkey, one protest involved 20,000 when organizers had called for 1 million. I'm getting the sense the average Turks don't care about the pope.

I'm sorry to hear about dad zapping your energy. I feel like his over-enthusiasm inspired by his first serious trip outside of the U.S. are like an earthquake creating tsunami waves building & building into a calamitous disaster. R.e. many of his relationships.

I had decided to give money for the village effort because I didn't mind supporting it, but now that you've reminded me of the xmas fiasco of last year, I won't since you think it doesn't make sense. I already a donation to Heifer International in honor of gram & gramps, but I did that because that organization is working in a way that can empower a family with a tool to improve their living rather than just giving money.

You've had such an amazing time in Turkey, including the visit from the Afghani professor. I can't wait to hear more stories when you come home.
