The ring becomes the topic of conversation for days. Who did it belong to? How old is it? Had it washed ashore or did it mean they were not alone? What do the initials DS stand for?
Over the course of the next week they come across a golf ball, a toy plane with a broken wing and eyeglasses whose frames appear to have been melded together from two different pairs.
This prompts Margaret to start searching in a more precise manner. Using a stick, she draws a grid in the sand, outlining a section of the beach where most of the items turned up. Robin and Curtis are delighted to help their mom dig using big scallop shells. At first Pierre just sits back and laughs, calls his wife Indiana Jones but soon he joins in too. There's not much else to do but keep the signal fire going and wait for rescue. After Marcel disappeared, they no longer go into the jungle.
When Curtis finds a dozen tiny diamonds, he's convinced that they’ve discovered Blackbeard’s legendary booty. Robin's nervous because she read somewhere that pirates place a curse on their treasure that will haunt anyone who unearths it without their permission. Pierre is inclined to believe her when under the diamonds they find two bodies. Then another and another.
They stop digging after that.
