It's always so interesting to me how different things can feel depending on previous exposure. Which makes sense, of course, but as someone who hadn't read or seen the original versions, I necessarily didn't notice what wasn't done right because I had no concept of what "right" was for the film. It's interesting to hear what was different/what could have been improved on, and from what you've touched on, I can see how the movie wouldn't have been up to snuff.
All that being said, I fall cleanly into that camp of "enjoyed the adaptation and am curious and ready to experience it in its original form".
