if i could have a job coming up with ideas -- not implementing anything, just identifying important connections between things, figuring out who will turn out to be good in their field and what ideas will become important, then i would RULE at my job

nah. they could, but their peers pound them to extract all the tiny bits of value for recycling.

I don't know about everyone, but that sort of thing happens to me from time to time. Of course, it's easier to come up with an idea once it's "in the air" and starts to be implied by things you've seen elsewhere even if it's not mentioned directly...

It's happened to me. I came up with profit sharing!

Some things I figured out when I was 5 or 8 years old are named after people. It's sad.
