Glad to see an update from you! Wow, Ali has quite the vocabulary :) I'm beginning to think Brianna will never start talking. She's walk around all day with her soothers to, one in mouth, one in hand, if we let her. I try to keep them only for nap/bed time though so I'm not sure why she's so attached to them.

My son was 19 months before he finally said something. He's now 2.5 and won't stop!

I was trying and succeeding to limit the soother usage, until we came to Ireland. Then I had to let him have them all the time as he got great comfort from them.
I am half-heartedly trying to get rid of them again, but in the meantime he has gotten so clever! He will demand the soother if he doesn't have it - something he never used to do (out of sight, out of mind). He also cries if I take it out, which is also new.
I suppose I will be happy as long as he is not 4 or something and still using a soother in public.

Brianna will probably just start talking overnight. She is so into books.. Ali is not really into books at all. So Brianna is probably just soaking it all up and someday it'll all come spouting out - you'll see!

That's true, I hate to see kids that are 4 or older walking around in public with a soother. Brianna never minds when you take hers away unless she's tired.

She does love books, either for us to read to her or just to sit & look at herself (she's even started stealing my books to flip through). I guess she's made some progress though because before she'd say a few words but only if prompted now she says hi to everyone she sees, she'll talk more eventually.

It's lovely to see you back! Hasn't Ali come on - it must have been very unsettling for him, such a big upheaval, it's no wonder he was clingy. But he seems to be over that.

And how are you?

Thank you! I will try and post an update on life here when I get the chance. I really wanted to write about Ali for my own records. Life just seems to be flying by!

How wonderful that he's going to learn so many languages! I would love to do that with mine, but alas we only know a smattering of french between us.

If you can at all - get them into some sort of classes for kids from as early as you can. Playgroup in a different language or something similar. When they are young they just soak it up. My niece S has learned loads from just listening to us.

Rather than just removing the soother, I'd try offering a substitute: a small car or something. So there's still An Item To Hold Onto, kinda thing. Worth a try, anyhow. We were lucky with J that way, so I can't speak from experience.
