Very nice take. I enjoyed the seeming frantic pace of the narrator, as if his brain was in overdrive from the Gruel.

The 'Gruel' cracked me up, because of the New!Marketing!Vision of it as a portmanteau rather than the standard meaning of it as something bland and dull but providing basic sustenance.

I liked the twist this took at the end. :)
