LJ Idol S11: Week 6: Solvitur Ambulando

Nov 14, 2019 15:03

Memory is a fickle thing. It took ages today for bits and bobs to come back to me, to create a clear memory of how exactly I found out she died. I didn't even remember clearly at first, but I do now. It was Jessica's journal. She said something about it, so I messaged her, and she filled me in, let me know it was true that Sybil had passed ( Read more... )

The death of a loved one or a friend (or even just the threat of death) just shakes you awake and makes you focus on the very big and the very small things at once.

It really is the best. I don't think I could ever live far from water again. I love all the little islands and lakes and beaches on the Sound that are close by here. I just wish the beaches were more sandy in the PNW like they are in California. Here they are very rocky. It's weird! But you can find cool rocks instead of cool seashells, so it works out ok.

So sad. And yes walking AND the sea are balms for grief. So much introspection here.

Thank you. It's true, they really are. I like that saying about salt water always helps, whether it's tears, sweat, or the sea. It's always resonated with me! Aw dang, I should've included it in this piece. Oh well.

I haven't actually been doing much walking lately but I want to get back in the habit. Hopefully soon!

Thank you so much. It was a long time ago, but had a big impact on my life and attitudes toward a lot of things (like being grateful for the time I have, and for small things that Sybil always talked about gratitude for - a glass of water, a snuggle with a cat). I was hoping for a peaceful feel, so I'm glad that came across for you. Thanks for reading and commenting!

I'm so sorry about your friend.

This was beautifully written, and so very relatable. I've lost at least one lovely LJ friend to cancer, and I suspect another is gone now too. Wonderful, sweet, talented, bright spirits who didn't deserve to go through that battle and who are gone much, much too soon.

Sybil sounds like an amazing friend, and this is a great tribute to her.

Oh I'm so sorry you've experienced the loss of some of your LJ friends to cancer too. Ugh, it's so hard and sad. I am glad they decided to come online and share their inspiration and joy through writing, and that we were lucky enough to know them.

Thank you so much!
