Harry Potter: GOF

Nov 19, 2005 20:19

Went and saw it this morning with my brother. No spoilers here... (although I think most people who go see it have read the book so how could there be spoilers?)

One big frustration was that they left so much out! :-(
Other than that no real complaints... anyone else want to share their thoughts?

i saw it last night. it didn't seem as dramatic as the book was. this was my favorite book of the series so far, and i remember being so invested in the characters when i read it. in the movie, it was exciting to watch, but some of it dragged on a bit slow ( ... )

I would LOVE a director's cut DVD that included more!!!
Especially for the quidditch cup match (sure we've seen the hogwartz ones in previous movies but they shouldn't have tossed out the whole match!)

I'm glad I didn't reread book 4 as well because I would've been more frustrated by how much they left out... even in the maze I think it was overly simplfied-they didn't really encounter any magical creatures at all so it looked too easy.

At least they did do a great job with how everything looked it's always cool to see a good book as a movie just the way you were visualizing it when you read the book!

there were all these little moments in the film that i loved. the twins scenes, although they were mostly in the background. and the bit where snape smacks ron and harry, or the part where he closes himself in the closet. i forgot this earlier, but i was disappointed that they didn't have spew in the film either. that would have been hilarious. but dobby wasn't actually there either, was he? ah, and i absolutely loved karkaroff. he was great.

Chad's never read the books and he's seen bits and pieces of the other movies. I believe he may have seen part of PoA and said "cool", but he's definately not a Harry Potter person. He went with us last night and every 10 minutes was like, "Who's that?" and "What's that guy drinking". My favorite was "I'll bet Snape is behind all this!" He knows enough to know that Snape is one of the "bad guys". *lol* So he was completely clueless.

I absolutely loved it. Not as much as PoA, because I ♥ Sirius. I'd definately see it again. I agree that I think the champions were well cast -- I was disappointed in their lack of speaking lines. The World Cup was way abbreviated, but I think they had to leave "unneccesary" scenes out and consolidate others. I think they handled the length of the book really well in adapting it into a movie.

Yeah I can't imagine watching the HP movies without having read the books-I bet it would seem a lot more confusing and just sort of goofy for so many people to be "enchanted" with some teenage wizards!

But don't you think it'd be awesome to see an "extended" version of the GOF movie where it was 4 hours but didn't leave out so much?! (I would totally pay to see a longer-more complete-version and I'd sit through it too!)
