This was my inroduction to C.J. Cherryh,  They sure don't make covers like they used to :D  Again, this isn't my copy no clue where that ended up but I had this cover

What is the genre?

sci-fi fantasy. The main character is a woman, Morgaine, who is ruthless and driven, and does NOT wear a bikini--she wears armour ;)

The only reason I bought it originally is because Andre Norton did the intro--the book is a great read; the present edition has a much better cover!

That's a Frazetta cover if I've ever seen one (or a good copy).

It could be, though she might have been wearing less in a true Frazetta :) He was such a big thing back then, you couldn't escape the style.

Heh - love that sensational cover! I used to get mad when the women were half-clothed and wouldn't buy the book. I see the artist has given the man the same treatment. Is he kneeling in submission to her? Bending the knee?

Spoilers: why yes, yes he is :D It's actually a very exciting and slightly terrifying adventure story. Morgaine is a dark force of nature. It's a series of 4 books, all fairly dark but very satisfying. I ended up reading a lot of Cherryh, she's built some very unusual and fascinating universes. I used to read a lot of sci-fi but I hardly ever do now, I seem to land on mostly non-fiction these days.

I think you'd like these books, they're filled with complicated people faced with difficult decisions. And their choices aren't always admirable which is catnip to me :)

Boy, they don't. I've seen this one in TBG's collection but neve read it.

It's the first book of a 4 book series. It's really a very good story.
