My ex is Polish and he's got a bunch of ie's and w's and z's in his name and the choices are, get used to people massacring the name and accept it or anglicize it.

Changing your name for the benefit of the English is ridiculous in my opinion. I am thoroughly amused at the many variations my French last name is pronounced and Robert's Italian name is one letter different from Gucci and yet people can't seem to figure out how to say it.

I've even make it into a game and have people guess how to pronounce it before I tell them. I am amused by the variations. The best was when someone called the office looking for "Dr. Ninja". (!)
