Hmm . . .

I am up at the cottage and was up late last night reading James Fitzgerald's family memoir. What Disturbs our Blood. In his prologue, he makes the assertion:
Some believe all writers write for their mothers

I am pondering this. What do you think?

Whoa. For me, personally? Terrifying thought.

Ha! My mother is the *last* person I write for. She once asked me why I can't just write a nice story about a nice girl. LOL!

Makes no sense whatever in my experience, but I can't speak for others. (I adore my mom, but she can't read anything I write, she's even apologetic about it.)

Having read a bit more of the book - it makes perfect sense for Fitzgerald, but for me, no. The person I write for is me. I write about what bothers me, fascinates me, or what I as a reader wants!

I write for my father, who shared my avid love of good science fiction. I think he'd be proud of me.
Mostly, thought, I write for myself. It makes me happy to write. It's hard to go a day without it.
