Well despite everything the media reported and created an unnecessary negative hype, the Games were wonderfully managed by India and the whole event was a resounding success for India. At least that is what I think. The athletes seemingly enjoyed and were happy. I give the Games a big thumbs up. They were an astounding success. Mishaps happen, when ( Read more... )

Well the foreign media did get a bit carried away, but I'll have to disagree with you in calling this games a resounding success. The organization was way below the mark, deadlines were missed, commitments were not met, and corruption was pervasive. That is all part of successful delivery, and we failed on that. I really don't think that is something we can live with, or it will be a shameful acceptance of mediocrity on our part. Again, sorry to be disagreeing with you so sharply, but I think the media was very patriotic in calling a spade a spade. Great powers, which we sometimes like to fancy ourselves as, are not built through patchwork. Credit is due to the people of Delhi, the volunteers, the artists and those committed officials who made the event a success; but our rotten culture in our administration and governence will keep humiliating us - if not now, then the next time.

Sorry Meetu but am gonna have to disagree with you as well and give a two-thumbs up to this response. Took the words right outta my mouth. It is unpatriotic not to criticise your own country's failings and although the Indian media always goes OTT, on this issue they were right to do so because heavens knows what a disaster it really would've turned out to be.

But we already know the officials were pathetic! The people who actually worked to get things done deserve praise. They did make it a success. Why should they be overshadowed. Am not even talking about state heads blah blah, they are just like statues, stately but useless. Its one thing to focus on failings (Kalmadi and the money he made, Sonia Gandhi and the crores she made and every petty official making money), but what of those who did make it work out? And really, am quite disillusioned as it is, all those ministers and officials were so happy on screen, it didn't even touch them that they were exposed. I just sometimes feel, whats the use. They are all like that. I don't even wanna look at them, but the many who worked together. I doubt Kalmadi made plans on how the games were to be run, all these preparations, in fact everything, was planned by other people and carried through. All these big shots did was to give out money (after taking their huge share).
