Los Angeles - Day 1

Sep 18, 2011 19:00

Friday 9 September

I stayed at the Motel 6 Hollywood, on Whitley avenue between Hollywod/Highland and Hollywood/Vine, so Hollywood & Highland (which is THE touristic place with the Kodak Theater, the Chinese Theater and everything) became my base camp.
On day 1, I did that part of Hollywood Boulevard, then went down to the Paramount studios. Hot day and not many trees in the streets. That night I went to the Hollywood Bowl for the Tchaikosky Spectacular. Conductor Bramwell Tovey was very funny. They played the Rococo Variations, part of Romeo and Juliet, act IV of Swan Lake and the 1812 overture. That last piece was when the "spectacular" happened since there were fireworks.

(Forgot to mention that when I arrived to the Hollywood Bowl, on my way to the bathroom, I heard someone speak French. I looked up in the direction of the voice and it was Sebastian Roche, right in front of me, lol. Didn't say anything though, I just smiled.)

The metro/bus pass I had bought was a waste since I walked everywhere. (Except a shuttle from the Kodak Theater to the Hollywood Bowl because I wasn't sure where it was. Since it was just a few minutes away, I came back on foot.)

Kimmel is right in front of the Kodak Theater.

Amoeba. I discovered this place through a Darren Criss interview but apparently it's very famous.

Look! It's the theater from the opening credits of Entourage!

Unfortunately I couldn't go in (you have to book in advance and be there at specific times.)

Back at the Kodak Theater.
