The holidays are slipping away quicker than I hoped. I've been spending time with the girlies, and doing some spring-cleaning in the bedrooms. I've been working on my Asylum fic, and a shorter piece for 50scenesIt's mostly me trying to get into John's headspace early in his hunting life, prompted by Dean's revelation in 'No Exit' that John took him

Thank you! It's been so long since I've felt able to actually write that it's just a relief to have the muse speaking to me again. I miss John so much, and there have only been a few references to him recently on the show, so I'm craving some good John moments.

I'm determined now to work on the Asylum fic. *nods decisively*

This was great, a nice glimpse into the radical changes made in every Winchester's life after Mary's death.

Thanks. I just feel for the two of them at this point in their relationship. Dean's just desperate to connect with his dad again, and John doesn't know how to comfort Dean in the aftermath of Mary's death.

His eyes are huge and wide, and there’s a little smile pulling at the edge of his lips that John hasn’t seen since - he can’t remember when.

I love this look at wee!Dean and John not sure how to make things better.

Thank you! John's trying so hard in this, but he just doesn't know how to give Dean the comfort he needs. *pets the broken family*

i love how unsure john is at first, how he's not sure what to do, and how ashamed he is that his own kid is afraid of him, and then how he hits on the practicalities of hunting - cleaning guns, learning to shoot - as a way to tire dean out but also as something that dean's interested in and excited about, when nothing else has made him happy. john teaches dean the dirty work of hunting because it's something dean seems to like, and i love how john realizes how practical it is at the same time he really regrets he has to do it.

Oh, that's EXACTLY what I was intending with this. You picked up on everything I put into this fic. The way John uses hunting as a way to connect with Dean, but also to tire him out. He doesn't realise that Dean likes it because he sees John so caught up in it, and he figures that if he likes it, then it will be something they can do together.
