Prolife Barack??

There is a push to portray Barack Obama as "the" pro-life candidate in the current election.  It makes no sense to me.  Senator Obama has a voting record that belies this, as far as I define pro-life.  My position comes from a belief that the most basic of all God given rights is the right to live.  Once a human being exists, that individual should ( Read more... )

Did you happen to watch the 3rd debate on Wednesday this week? This topic came up. Full transcript of the debate at cnn.com here, but here's a cut/pasted excerpt of McCain's question and Obama's answer:

I understand his response in the debate, but, at the same time, I have to ask why that did not come through in his remarks in the Senate at that time. There was no indication in those remarks that another law was already on the books that did what this bill would have done. He was more concerned with ". . . what impact this [SB1661] would have with respect to the relationship between the doctor and the patient and what liabilities the doctor might have in this situation." (Transcript linked in original post) He was not concerned with reducing the number of abortions, but was only worried about how it affected the doctor/patient relationship, the very relationship that it was designed to affect. It was trying to address the issue of what responsibility does society have to a newborn who was born (i.e., separated from his/her mother while still alive). It matters not whether the child is "previable" or viable, it is undeniably a separate, living human being who, according to what I stated in the original post, deserves its right ( ... )
