I've been back at my internship for two days and I've finished the work that was supposed to take me two weeks and which was the reason I was asked to come back after Mum's little ordeal. Counting out traveling, it sounds about my job ;) (I'm a communications consultant and media analyst in a communications agency in Helsinki) I don't remember what your main subject is, but you should apply as a trainee in a communications agency. Most of them take a trainee to do proof-reading ect. for their busy season in January-March. Some of them continue as summer workers or get employed for real.

Sounds promising - and like a really cool job, so congrats! And now for the dumb question, what exactly is it that you do? Say, what does your average work day consist of? I think one of my biggest problems is not having any idea what titles like "consultant" or "media analyst" mean in practice, on a very day-to-day level. (I've occasionally tried to browse some occupational descriptions but they're always couched in such vague terms.)

I'm studying something completely different (Classics and English), but I have actually been thinking about maybe doing some Communications and Journalism studies just to see what it's like.

Hmmm. today I made a daily english summary of the company's media coverage in Finnish media for the company X, and then I made the same to company Y. Then I surfed the net trying to find out what kind of mining industry trade papers there are in the world. Then I translated a newspaper article from finnish to english, and translated an offer from a subcontractor to a client that needed it *right then*. Then I did some proof reading for an annual report, fought with out swedish IT helpdesk about who in our company is able to send mass e-mails, tried to tinker around in a press release service that we are trying out, and wrote a job satisfaction survey for internal use.

That's about it for today. I actually end up doing a lot of translating. I'm not that good at it, but good enough, and I'm *fast as hell* when I'll have to do both summarizing and translating.

And now I'm kinda embarrased by the zillion mistakes I made with my English. Oh well ;)
