My BA thesis is going to suck. I've reached a point where I just keep typing although I'm using exactly two sources (which is, I don't know, about ten sources too few) and am making absolutely no sense. I really, really like my topic, but I feel like I need a few years to figure it all out - as it is, I'm just writing down random tidbits on ( Read more... )

My BSc dissertation was a thing of wonder: I think the point where I needed to make the font 14pt in the vague hope no-one would notice how thin it was was the nadir... I fear I may also have pointlessly referenced Kraftwerk.

Anyway, in that spirit, here's a p23 encouragement decision tree:

1. Are you almost finished? If NO goto 3.
2. Chin up, little soldier! Almost there! END
3. Are you close to the deadline? If YES goto 5.
4. Keep at it Elina, it'll come to you. END.
5. One final push to victory! If my experience is anything to go by, then:
5.1 Keep typing quickly.
5.2 Don't worry about the nonsense, fix it in the editing stage - just try to keep a certain consistency to the nonsense so you don't have to deinterleave four completely separate concepts sentence by sentence.
5.3 Good luck! END.

All the best.

Thank you. I'm struggling with 5.2., but I am quickly losing all sense of self-criticism and...well, just losing all sense in general, so here's to embracing my inner underachiever!

I feel I've had so many people cheer me on (mostly due to my endless whinging) that postponing the paper again is not an option -> motivation to actually finish, finally! \o/
