Someone tell me why it is that I can live in Vancouver, in an earthquake-prone zone, for nearly two years hoping that I'll experience a minor earthquake--nothing alarming, but one of the few things I'd never hoped to find in the Midwest where I spent most of my life--without feeling a tremor, yet while I'm wasting my time out on the coast, Illinois
