Ed had given the Tringham brothers an area on the property for plants which went beyond flowers and other decorative shrubbery in the more conventional garden. Plenty of useful plants were culivated in the main garden, like chamomile - in quite large numbers - with their blossoms that looked like miniature daisies, they were all non-toxic, since they took Elysia into account when planning the garden.
But there was another garden, this one surrounded by a fence, that housed more potentially hazardous plants, from stinging nettle to foxglove to licorice to ephedra, and other things that might pose a risk. A greenhouse was constructed attached to one end of the fenced garden, for things of more delicate constituions requiring specific environments. Nearby was another building, barely more than a shed, where plants could be hung up to dry for storage in the apartment's basement.
Russell strongly suspected that the reason Ed so readily agreed to this area being put aside for their own research and work was just to lessen the odds of being bothered by them, particularly him. Not that it really mattered; Russell had his work area, and that was enough for him.
Currently, he was on his knees, wearing rubber gloves that extended up to his shoulders, and a mesh-covered hat not dissimilar to what a beekeeper might wear as he worked behind the fence around some tall stalks with heart-shaped leaves and green flowers.
